Two Industry Leaders Join Forces to Advance Worker Well-Being Through Innovation

Epicore Biosystems and DuPont are collaborating to combine wearable biometrics with protective gear to support worker health and safety.

Epicore Biosystems and DuPont Personal Protection announced Tuesday a new collaboration to explore wearable technology solutions aimed at improving worker safety and well-being in high-risk environments.

The partnership brings together Epicore’s expertise in sweat-sensing wearable hydration management and DuPont’s leadership in personal protective garments. The two companies aim to integrate real-time physiological data with protective gear, potentially enhancing heat safety strategies and offering new insights into on-the-job risks.

“Our overarching goal is to empower workers with personalized hydration insights, enabling them to perform at their best while minimizing risks associated with dehydration and heat exposure,” said Matt Marrapode, vice president of strategy at Epicore Biosystems.

The effort comes amid rising temperatures and growing concern over heat-related workplace injuries. A 2024 Notice of Proposed Rulemaking from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) emphasized the need for stronger protections against heat illness in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Epicore’s Connected Hydration platform — described as the first smart wearable solution for sweat-based hydration and recovery tracking — is already in use across sports, wellness, and industrial sectors in North America, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.

By pairing this biometric tracking with DuPont’s protective gear, the companies see opportunities to pioneer individualized safety approaches that account for physical strain, environmental stress, and dehydration risks on the job.

“Collaborating with Epicore Biosystems enables our team to explore advanced biometrics in tandem with our industry-leading personal protective solutions,” said Liz Briggs, global marketing manager at DuPont.

The collaboration underscores both companies' commitment to innovation at the intersection of digital health and occupational safety, as wearable technologies become increasingly integrated into industrial safety strategies.
