AIHA Connect 2025 Reflected a Human-Centered Future for OEHS

Keynotes emphasized inclusion, communication, and leadership in evolving workplace safety environments.

AIHA Connect 2025, held in Kansas City, Missouri, from May 19 to 21, brought together occupational and environmental health and safety (OEHS) professionals for a dynamic week of education, innovation, and collaboration. The conference's keynote sessions bookended the event, emphasizing the importance of communication and inclusion in the OEHS field.

The opening keynote featured David Finch, a New York Times bestselling author and autism advocate, who shared his journey and insights on embracing neurodiversity in the workplace. Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in 2008, Finch highlighted the strategic advantages of recognizing and supporting neurodivergent individuals within organizations. He emphasized that neurodiversity is already present in most workplaces and challenged attendees to create environments where all employees can thrive.

Closing the conference, Evy Poumpouras, a former U.S. Secret Service agent and communication expert, delivered a compelling address on the power of human connection and soft skills in leadership. Drawing from her experiences in law enforcement and media, Poumpouras underscored the significance of resilience, effective communication, and emotional intelligence in navigating today's complex work environments.

Together, these keynote sessions framed AIHA Connect 2025 as a people-centered conference, reinforcing the vital role of communication and inclusion in advancing the OEHS profession.
