The North Carolina Department of Labor recognized exceptional safety performance among Lincolnton-area businesses and workers during its annual Safety Awards Banquet, held Thursday at the Lincoln Cultural Center.
Co-hosted by the Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, the event celebrated local employers that have demonstrated a strong commitment to injury prevention and building a workplace culture rooted in safety.
Deputy Commissioner and Occupational Safety and Health Director Scott Mabry delivered remarks at the event, underscoring the importance of collaboration and leadership in workplace safety.
“Under Commissioner Farley’s leadership, the department’s top priority is making sure North Carolina workers go home safe and healthy at the end of every workday,” Mabry said. “It’s an honor to follow Commissioner Farley’s lead and recognize the businesses and individuals who’ve earned these safety awards — not just for what they’ve achieved, but for their daily commitment to creating safe workspaces.”
The awards are based on safety performance data from the 2024 calendar year. To qualify, businesses must have reported no fatalities at the award site during the year. Honors are divided into two categories:
- Gold Awards recognize businesses with DART rates (cases involving Days Away from work, Restricted activity, or job Transfer) at least 50% below the industry average.
- Silver Awards are based on days away from work only, and also with rates 50% below industry averages.
These benchmarks represent measurable outcomes in reducing workplace incidents.
The Lincolnton banquet is one of more than two dozen such events held statewide this spring as part of the NCDOL Safety Awards Program, which honors more than 2,000 employers across North Carolina.
