The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) is urging businesses to get a head start on planning for Safe+Sound Week, taking place August 11–17, 2025. This year’s national workplace safety campaign focuses on emergency preparedness and response.
The annual event, promoted in partnership with OSHA, highlights the importance of proactive safety and health programs in preventing workplace injuries and improving resilience.
“Emergencies can disrupt operations, cause significant damage, and put workers, customers, and the public at risk,” L&I said in a statement. “Planning is the best way to stay safe.”
In the lead-up to the weeklong event, businesses are encouraged to take the Response-Ready Workplace Challenge—a free activity designed to help organizations ensure employees are trained and prepared to act in various emergency scenarios.
Companies don’t have to wait until August to participate. L&I is recommending employers begin reviewing their emergency procedures now and incorporate emergency planning into their overall safety programs.
Resources are available on the agency’s website under the Sample Safety Programs & Plans section, specifically within the Emergencies tab, which outlines rules and requirements based on specific workplace hazards.
