The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) has unveiled a groundbreaking artificial intelligence tool aimed at transforming the way safety experts access and apply workplace safety information.
The new platform, dubbed Safety Trekr AI, harnesses the power of AI to provide real-time, reliable guidance sourced directly from the Society’s 1,330-page “Safety Professionals Handbook, Third Edition.” The tool is designed to help safety professionals make faster, better-informed decisions that enhance on-the-job safety and health.
“In today’s dynamic work environments, Safety Trekr AI empowers safety professionals to perform their jobs with unprecedented speed and effectiveness,” said ASSP President Linda Tapp, CSP, ALCM, CPTD. “While safety professionals can still choose to review specific sections of the handbook, it’s now possible to get immediate and trusted guidance when time is of the essence.”
The AI engine can scan the entire handbook and synthesize complex information in seconds. What once required hours of research can now be resolved in moments, saving time, reducing the risk of workplace injuries, and improving regulatory compliance.
Notably, Safety Trekr AI includes multilingual support, removing communication barriers by translating its output into multiple languages. The system leverages natural language processing to understand users’ questions and deliver precise, accessible answers—whether users are in the field, in an office, or on the move.
“It’s truly remarkable how this sophisticated tool leverages natural language processing techniques to comprehend a question and communicate the answer in the user’s native language,” Tapp added. “When obstacles are removed, work environments everywhere can be improved, fostering a truly global culture of safety.”
Unlike open-source AI platforms, Safety Trekr AI is a closed, curated model that only accesses verified content from the handbook, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and credibility. The tool summarizes best practices, regulatory guidance, and case studies—often presenting results in the form of actionable checklists or concise risk assessments.
The new technology will be showcased in the ASSP Marketplace during the upcoming Safety 2025 Professional Development Conference and Exposition, taking place July 22–24 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. Attendees can explore the tool and participate in a Tech Talk about its development and capabilities. Additional information is available in the Safety 2025 mobile app.
